What to Expect
There's no minimum commitment. Some volunteers come once a year for a major event. Others show up monthly. We'll match opportunities to your availability — not the other way around.
We set you up before every event. You'll always know your role, your location, your point of contact, and what to bring before you arrive. We don't drop volunteers in without context.
Some roles require a background check. Any volunteer working directly with youth will need to complete one. It's a simple process and most people are cleared within a week. We'll walk you through it.
Shifts typically run 4–6 hours. Depending on your role you might be welcoming families, supporting pilots on the flight line, running an activity station, or helping youth prep for a discovery flight experience.

Question on Becoming a Volunteer
Do I need aviation experience to volunteer?
Not at all. While we love having pilots and aviation professionals involved, most of our volunteer roles simply require enthusiasm for our mission and a willingness to show up for youth. We'll find the right fit for your skills.
Is there a background check required?
Volunteers who work directly with youth are required to complete a background check. It's a simple process and we'll walk you through it after you submit your form.
Do I need to be a Bay Area resident?
We primarily serve the Bay Area community, so local volunteers are preferred. That said, if you're passionate about our mission and able to travel to our events, we'd love to connect.
Can I volunteer for just one event?
Absolutely. We welcome one-time volunteers, especially for larger events like the Compton Air & Space Fair. If you catch the bug and want to stay involved, there's always more opportunity.
What does a typical volunteer shift look like?
It depends on the role, but most shifts run 4–6 hours. You might be helping set up, guiding youth through activities, supporting pilots on the flight line, or managing check-in. We make sure every volunteer knows their role before the day starts.
Where do events and programs take place?
Our events and programs are held throughout the Bay Area, including at local airports, schools, and community spaces. Specific locations are shared with volunteers ahead of each event.
What happens after I fill out the form? & How long does it take to hear back?
Once you submit the form, a member of our team will follow up within 5–7 business days to learn more about your interests and match you with the right opportunity. We appreciate your patience; we're a small but mighty team.
