FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Calling all Young Aviation Enthusiasts! We are thrilled to announce the resounding success of Bay Area Urban Eagles, Inc.'s (BAUE) 1st year of operation. Established March of 2023, BAUE accomplished major milestones such as hosting “Meet the Pro’s,” graduating a class of 13 students from our private pilot ground school program, and most recently, hosting the 1st Annual Youth Airport Discovery Day at our own local Palo Alto Airport. The only program of its kind in the Bay Area, Urban Eagles is a non-profit educational foundation dedicated to providing exposure and aviation training for youth and young adults. BAUE is your ticket to exploring an exhilarating adventure into the world of all things aviation.
Bay Area Urban Eagles, Inc. Hosts Successful 1st Annual Airport Discovery Day for Youth at the Palo Alto Airport.
Airport Discovery Day was held on July 5th, 2024. Participants were exposed to various airport facilities, including tours of the Air Traffic Control Tower, Airport Operations at the terminal, maintenance hangars, and airplanes used for corporate transportation. They observed airplane traffic into SFO and Palo Alto Airports using ForeFlight on iPads at the Palo Alto Baylands Duck Pond and listened to real-time Air Traffic Control communications with handheld communication radios. These hands-on experiences gave students a firsthand look at the exciting possibilities within the aviation industry, inspiring many to consider pursuing careers in this dynamic field.
Meet The Pro's
Meet the Pro’s is an inspirational panel event open to the community where participants get an opportunity to meet professionals with diverse occupations in aviation. Aviation professionals make themselves available to answer questions about their work in the industry, what inspired them to work in aviation, and the process of entering and growing in the field.
Youth in Aviation
Our Science, Technology, Engineering, Aerospace, and Math (STEAM) program is designed for children ages 8 to 14. The age-appropriate lesson plans are produced by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). By combining the lesson plans and tailoring the curriculum to the developmental stages and cognitive abilities of children in this age range, the program ensures that the content is engaging, educational, and stimulating. NASA and the FAA bring their expertise and experience to create lesson plans that spark curiosity and inspiration in young learners. Through this initiative, children are introduced to the marvels of aviation and STEAM subjects, fostering a passion that could shape the future of aviation enthusiasts and aspiring professionals.
Private Pilot Ground School
The other branch of our Youth in Aviation program, for ages 14 to 20 years old, provides private pilot ground school training where we prepare students to take the FAA written pilot exam. We also offer workforce career internship opportunities, providing entry-level employment positions in airport operations, avionics, and aircraft maintenance. Additionally, many of our youth in this age group actively participate in the local Civil Air Patrol squadron.
